Installing Online Backup Service on Microsoft Small Business Server

Summary

In order to operate, the online backup software needs to open the port 4401 for the TCP/UDP protocols on the machine where it is installed. If this fails, the online backup service will stop and will record the
following error in the Windows Application Log: "Failed to open ports"

After installing the online backup software on a Small Business Server 2003, the online backup service might fail to start with the above symptoms.

On these platforms there is a port conflict. The workarounds for each are described below:

Workaround for Small Business Server 2003 online backup service.

Manually perform the following steps from Windows Services:

1. Stop World Wide Web Publishing service;
2. Stop Simple Mail Transfer Protocol service;
3. Stop Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine service;
4. Stop HTTP SSL service;
5. Stop IISAdmin service;
6. Stop DHCP Server service;
7. Start DHCP Server service;
8. Start IISAdmin service;
9. Start HTTP SSL service;
10. Start Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine service;
11. Start Simple Mail Transfer Protocol service;
12. Start World Wide Web Publishing service;

Then, use the SecuriData-Client Service Manager to start the online backup service.
