SecuriData Online Backup - Service Account

SecuriData’s online backup software runs as a service on a Windows NT / 2000 / XP / 2003 computers and requires a user account in order to logon (to allow access to network resources). This user account must be provided during the online backup installation process (make sure that this user account exists on the target Windows NT / 2000 / XP / 2003 machine).

SecuriData Online Backup - Service Account

Before starting SecuriData’s online backup installation program, you must log on to the online backup host computer as the administrator or other user with equivalent permissions.

Service Account Rights

The Service Account requires some advanced user rights. Therefore, the online backup installation program grants the following rights to the Online Backup Service Account:

"Act as part of the operating system".

 "Logon as a service".

 "Backup files and directories".

 "Restore files and directories".

How the DS-Client uses the Service Account

The online backup installation programs store the username and password for the Online Backup Service Account in the Registry (in encrypted form). The online backup service uses this user account for logon impersonation during backup/restore sessions that are not configured with a user account that has permissions to perform logon impersonation (e.g. connection to a non-Windows NT / 2000 / XP / 2003 computer). This (logon impersonation) allows the online backup client software to perform simultaneous backup/restore operations from/to the same server with different user credentials.

Changing and Maintaining the Service Account

In order to provide uninterrupted service, make sure that the online backup Service Account is not disabled, that the "Password never expires" option is set, and that no expiry date is set for this account. If the online backup Service Account or password must be changed, reconfigure with Start > Programs > SecuriData > Client Setup. Do not reconfigure through Control Panel > Services > Startup, because the online backup client service may not function properly.

If the service account is changed, re-create the Mail Profile used for online backup daily notifications.
